Creating an Excel Layout

You can use an Excel file to define the structure of your Source or Destination layout. To create an Excel file layout, you need to specify the format of the Excel file.

To create an Excel file layout:

  1. Select Excel from the source schema type drop-down list.
  2. Click  to create an Excel layout from the source data layout. 



  3. On the Create Layout window, provide the name of an Excel layout.



  4. Click Next to continue further.
  5. Provide the following details in the fields. 

    Field Name
    Description
    Sheet nameName of the sheet.
    File header presentFile Header usually contains the titles of the fields in your Excel file. In addition, if the Excel layout is used at the destination, and the File header present check box is selected, the title will be included in the destination Excel file.

    If you are configuring the layout at the Source application then on selecting the check box, a new field appears.

    If the position of the header field in the schema and the target file differ, click No. On selecting No, a new field appears.

    Click Yes if the header fields are case sensitive.

    Column start positionSpecifies which column of the Excel sheet is counted as the first column. For example, if you entered 5 in the Column Start Position field, 5th Column of the Excel Sheet is counted as the first column. If this File layout is used as a source, data from the 5th column is considered for processing. If this File layout is used as a target, data is copied from the 5th column. 1st to 4th column of the destination excel sheet will remain blank.
    Data row start positionSpecifies which row of the Excel sheet is counted as the first row. By default, the first row and column of the specified excel sheet are selected.
    Upload sample fileFile path to define the Excel layout.
    Field definitionStructure of the sample Excel layout file. When you select the sample Excel layout file, the structure of the file is displayed in this table. By default, the data type for each column is String. You can modify the column attributes/data types of the column by right clicking the column and selecting Column Attributes. Instead of uploading a sample file, you can also create the structure manually. To create the structure manually, click here.


    To create the table structure manually:

    1. Click the column header to edit, insert, or delete columns, if required.

    2. Select Column Attribute to choose the data type for each column.



    3. Select the type for the column.

    4. Click Save to save the selected column attribute.

  6. Click Save to save the Excel layout.
