Positional Data Dictionary

When creating Positional layouts, some record definitions may be common across layouts. You can create and define the record definitions commonly used in Positional layouts in a Positional Data Dictionary. Thus, when creating a Positional layout, you can select the data dictionary and display the required records. Later, you can also view or delete a record from the Positional layout screen itself. 

  1. Click Configure > OTHERS > Positional Data Dictionary.

  2. Click Create Positional Data Dictionary


     

  3. On the Create Positional Data Dictionary screen, type the name and description of the new Positional Data Dictionary.

  4. In the Definition Mode, select the way you want to define records to be stored in the Data Dictionary. To define the records using the definition file, follow the below steps:
    1. Select Use Definition File.
    2. Select the type of file from the drop-down list box - XSD or Field.
    3. Browse to and select the file. 

    To enter the records manually, follow the below steps:

    While defining records manually, the record identifier name should be same as one of the field names. If the record identifier name is not same as the field name then the record would not be saved. 

    1. Click Define Records Manually and then click Add Record. A Data Dictionary Record Builder screen appears in a new window.



    2. Type the name of the Record Identifier in the Record Identifier Name text box.
    3. Type the value of the Record Identifier in the Record Identifier Value text box.
    4. Type the description and version of the record identifier in the Description and Version text boxes.
    5. Type the values in the fields for the record. Type the name and description of the field in the Field Name and Description text boxes.
    6. Select the type of data from the Type drop-down list. The available options are string, number, and date. If the type is Date, select the format of date and time from the Date Format and Time Format drop-down list.
    7. To define the field position using field length, select Field Length option and type the length of the field in the Length text box. Alternately, to define the field position using start and end position, select Start & End Positions option and type the start and end positions of the field in the Start and End text boxes.

      The starting position of a row in a positional file is 1. In a positional file, tab is counted as one position and not eight positions. By default, field positions are created in sequence. You can also create a data dictionary with fields that are not in sequence.

    8. Select the alignment of the field from the Align drop-down list. The available options are L and R. Select L if the field is left aligned, select R if the field is right aligned.   

    9. Select Skip check box, if you want to skip this field while generating XML. It skips the fields that are not required for the data dictionary.
    10. Repeat the above steps to add multiple records. 
    11. Click Save to save the records. The saved records are displayed on the Create Positional Data Dictionary screen. You can view, edit or delete a record from this screen by clicking the appropriate button for that record.

  5. Click Save to save the Positional Data Dictionary.
